Starting from the age of 30, our face begins to lose elasticity due to decreased collagen production. The deep facial fat pads in the face begin to disappear; the facial bones develop osteoporosis and begin to resorb. The overall effect of these changes result in a deflated appearance; with increasing fine lines, sagging skin and hollowing in the cheeks and temple. This process is commonly compared to the difference between a grape and a raisin.
Dr. Moradzadeh is an expert in an innovative procedure that has proved very effective in subtly restoring a youthful-looking appearance to the face. It’s known as Sculptra Aesthetic, a facial injectable volumizing treatment that actually stimulates the regeneration of collagen to restore lost volume and smooth out wrinkles and fine lines. What makes Sculptra unique is its ability to stimulate your body to make new “baby” collagen.
Sculptra Aesthetic is used to improve:
- Deep folds between the nose and the mouth
- The lines framing the mouth
- Temples
- Under the eyes
- Jawline and cheek bones
Understanding the Procedure
Sculptra targets the underlying causes of the signs of aging. It contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible material that stimulates the body to produce new collagen, reinforcing the skin’s structure within the deep dermis of the face — and providing a foundation that gradually restores the look of fullness to the facial wrinkles and folds that have been depleted over time. Sculptra Aesthetic is particularly effective because the results are subtler, more refined and natural looking.
Sculptra injections have minimal discomfort because local anesthetic is pre-mixed with the PLLA. Dr. Moradzadeh injects Sculptra into the areas of the face that need to be volumized; deep injections replace bone and fat pads, superficial injections fill fine lines and creases. A series of treatments, usually 2-3 (over a period of a few months)are required to achieve the desired effects. The results become visible gradually. They usually start appearing within a month of the treatment, and continue to progress as new collagen growth is stimulated. The finished results can last for up to two years.
What to Expect Afterwards
Immediately following the treatment, patients experience mild swelling, but this disappears quickly. Other side effects are minimal, and may include temporary bruising, tenderness or redness around the injection area. Downtime is also minimal, and patients normally resume their daily activities shortly after the procedure. Makeup can be applied immediately after the treatment, if necessary, to cover up any redness.
Other Considerations
Sculptra can be combined with other fillers (like Juvederm®, Radiesse® or Restylane®) or with Botox®/Dysport® to achieve even greater anti-aging results. These injectables can be used together in a liquid facelift procedure.
A new innovative procedure is combining Sculptra injections with Ultherapy. These treatments work synergistically to boost the amount of collagen production. Together you get lifting, tightening, and improved volume and texture.
