Patients who suffer from chronic sinus disease can often benefit from a state-of-the-art technique known as Balloon Sinuplasty. Dr. Moradzadeh began using sinus balloons before they were available to most surgeons.
Understanding The Procedure
During this minimally invasive procedure, the doctor inserts a small, flexible balloon catheter through the nose and into the targeted sinus area. The balloon is then inflated in the blocked sinus passageway to open it up. This helps to widen the walls of the passageway and results in restored drainage and the improvement of other functions of the sinuses.
An advantage to this procedure is that there is no cutting of nasal bone or tissue. It has also proved to be highly effective. Most patients report clinically meaningful improvement in sinus symptoms and quality of life. Another major advantage is that balloon sinuplasty can be completed in the office with only topical anesthesia in a very short period of time with little to no discomfort. Dr. Moradzadeh is also an expert at minimally invasive hybrid sinus surgery. This technique allows using the balloon for certain sinuses and micro-sinus instruments in other sinuses, to provide long-term sinus relief with little to no downtime.
What To Expect Afterwards
Patients go home very soon after having the procedure. While recovery time will vary, most individuals can quickly return to normal activities.
