Blepharoplasty in Los Angeles, CA

At AM Facial Plastics, we use professional blepharoplasty laser surgery to help not only combat the signs of aging but also to help improve your vision and the overall appearance of your eyes. Certified blepharoplasty can help improve your appearance by eliminating excess skin, fat, and muscle that forms around your eyes while aging as well as give you a clearer field of vision in as little as one treatment.

What is Blepharoplasty?

When it comes to you both looking and feeling your best, blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, has many medical as well as cosmetic benefits. The surgery itself can be performed in one of two ways, upper blepharoplasty, and lower blepharoplasty. This form of eyelid surgery can help you look and feel younger by reducing the saggy skin that forms around the eyes known as ptosis, a naturally occurring sign of aging.

Blepharoplasty isn’t just a cosmetic procedure that can help you achieve a more youthful-looking appearance, often it’s medically necessary when the folds of loose skin begin to obscure your field of vision. Using state-of-the-art technology and the latest surgical techniques, we can help eliminate any excess skin around your eyes to help clarify your vision, as well as give you a more alert, awake, and youthful appearance.

Upper Blepharoplasty

With incisions being made along your eye’s natural folds and creases, upper blepharoplasty is performed on the upper eyelid to remove excess fat, skin, and muscle that causes a droopy-eyed appearance.

In some cases, fat may be added during this procedure to help fill in any areas of hollowness around your eyes to give you a more full and youthful look. With minimal scarring thanks to the incision placement, we use fine sutures to close off the incision and minimize the visibility of any scars.

Lower Blepharoplasty

With lower blepharoplasty, we create an incision on the lashline of the lower eyelid to help minimize any visible scarring post-procedure. This approach allows us to remove any excess muscle, fat, or skin that may inflict the lower eyelid area as well as grants us the ability to rearrange fat if necessary.

The process of rearranging fat, known as fat transposition, can help address any areas or hollowness around the lower eyelid. This can help reduce specific signs of aging such as a hollowed or dark appearance, leaving you with a natural and well-rested look.

The Benefits of Professional Blepharoplasty

Whether it’s to reduce the signs of aging that occurs around your eyes, or it’s deemed medically necessary to improve your vision, professional blepharoplasty can provide you with a variety of benefits. Below are some of the most common benefits that have been associated with both upper and lower blepharoplasty treatments.

  • Reduces or eliminates saggy skin around the eyes
  • Give you a younger and more alert appearance
  • May help improve your peripheral vision
  • Can reduce migraines and headaches
  • Brighter-looking eyes or enhanced eye color

Your Blepharoplasty Treatment

With any surgical procedure, you must understand the reason and process behind it. Blepharoplasty is no different and that’s why we start with an initial consultation to determine whether or not blepharoplasty is the right choice for you.

Your Initial Consultation

At your initial consultation, we’ll discuss your concerns and needs when it comes to your eyelid surgery. This is the perfect time to have all of your questions or concerns regarding the procedure answered so that you feel confident in the treatment. We’ll also review any previous surgery that you may have had as well as any medical conditions that may affect your procedure to help ensure you’re getting the best treatment option for you and your needs.

Day of Your Treatment

Depending on whether you’re getting both upper and lower eyelids treated, treatment can take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours to complete. You’ll be placed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation before we begin the procedure to minimize discomfort. After the incision has been made and the excess fat, muscle, and skin have been removed, we’ll close your incision with dissolvable sutures, skin glue, or general sutures depending on which works best for your specific situation.

Your Road To Recovery

General sutures are typically removed within a week of your procedure while dissolvable sutures will disappear on their own over time. Results will begin to appear gradually as minor swelling and bruising subside with many patients seeing their desired results within 1 to 3 months after their treatment.

You must follow all post-procedure instructions given to you to avoid unnecessary complications and speed up your overall recovery. Some general rules that are good to follow after your blepharoplasty treatment can be found below.

  • Don’t rub your eyes
  • Avoid swimming and hot tubs
  • Avoid lifting heavy objects and any vigorous activities
  • Cover your eyes from the sun and wind with dark protective glasses
  • Don’t wear contacts for the first few weeks
  • Avoid anything that raises blood pressure as much as possible
